Tape, 2011, performance and video, approx. 30mins

Wells’ work examines the relationship between performance and video; the way they inform each other and how the nature of a performance changes when it involves a camera.Tape is a re-enactment performed in front of a documentation of the original enactment of a performance. Through this juxtaposition Wells wants to question whether the performance and the video can exist without each other or are inevitably bound together.

Performance In Bb First Position / Bob Dylan Can't Play Harmonica, 2011, two channel video, 4mins 37secs

Wells’ videos and performances often depict absurd situations, actions and events surrounding his performance persona. He also explores narratives and narrative sequences and is particularly fascinated by preposterous actions that do not have a beginning or an end. The documented performance of playing harmonica is shown as a never-ending loop. The ridiculously melodramatic nature of the video discusses a pointless self-inflicted struggle.
